Tesco Mobile customers are being given free music for the rest of the summer. People using the mobile network, set up by the retail giant Tesco, will be able to make the most of an exclusive offer between the brand and its music streaming service Blinkbox Music. It’s available to those who are upgrading their device to a Samsung S5, HTC M8 or Sony Z2 on a pay monthly contract. The offer will be automatic and will be available via the Blinkbox music application. It will last for three months.
Simon Groves, who is the chief marketing officer for Tesco Mobile, said: “With the World Cup and wonderful weather on our doorstep the summer playlist is a vital addition to ensuring maximum fun in the sun. Our customers loved it when we teamed up with Blinkbox movies so this time we’re joining forces to give away free music all summer long with some of the best-selling smartphones around.”
Customers who wish to use the Blinkbox music streaming service will be able to listen on the go using Tesco’s 4G network at no extra cost. This does not apply to oversees charges. They can also listen to radio stations or playlists offline if they do not want to use the network.
There are a number of summer themed stations that customers can listen to. Some of the playlists include bands from the line-ups at the biggest festivals of the season such as Glastonbury and Reading And Leeds. The Glastonbury playlist includes tracks by headliners Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian as well as rising stars like Kodaline and The War On Drugs. Some musicians have also curated playlists of their own music choices such as Kylie Minogue, The Kaiser Chiefs and The Pretenders’ singer Chrissie Hynde.
Blinkbox also runs a movie streaming service for customers to watch the latest movies and TV shows on demand. To use the service, you can pay a small price to rent the film or episode for a limited period of time. This can be watched through your desktop or you can sync up a limited number of devices such as smartphones and tablets to watch your purchase on the go. At the moment, their featured content includes the latest season of fantasy epic Game Of Thrones and movies such as action movie Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, drama The Book Thief and Dallas Buyers Club which won Matthew McConaughey his first Oscar for Best Actor.
